The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu may lose his British Citizenship as the his group has now been designated a Terrorist Organization by the British Government.
The United Kingdom, on Thursday, eventually accepted Nigeria’s bracket of the group as a terrorist organization.
This is following wide killings and acts of lawlessness in the south-east regions by individualities/ members pious to the group. Originally the UK didn't fete the Nigerian government’s bracket of the group until lately, exactly 4 days after the horrible murder of a military couple in Imo state.
Independent recalls that the outlawed group guillotined an army couple, who were on their way to Imo State for their traditional marriage.
The British government has also ordered for the group’s rejection from its shelter programme.
“ IPOB is interdicted as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its civil sect – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have reportedly committed mortal rights violations in Nigeria.”
Still, MASSOB or any other ‘Biafran’ group that incites or uses violence to achieve its points, decision makers must consider whether one (or further) of the rejection clauses under the Refugee Convention is applicable, “ If a person has been involved with IPOB (and/ or an related group).”
